Baltimore’s Late-Season Freezing Temperature
On April 29, 2022, the temperature dropped to 32°F. at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), breaking the daily record of 33° from way back in 1874. This also established the 3rd latest freezing temperature ever recorded for Baltimore. The only two later-in-the-season times it’s reached freezing were on April 30, 1961 and May 11, 1966 when both dates also recorded 32°F.
Baltimore’s long-term temperature archive covers both the previous downtown locations (7/1872 to 7/1950) and BWI (8/1950-Present) and the differences in siting and general climate conditions between downtown and the suburban airport location provide much better chances for colder temperatures at the airport.
